The Titans won their opening encounter against Chennai Super Kings and have started the campaign on a winning note.

Gujarat Titans, the defending IPL winners, defeated Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets in the opening game of the 16th season on Friday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad (March 31). Shubhman Gill, who struck 63 runs in 36 balls, was Gujarat’s player of the match. The CSK player of the match earlier was Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored 92 runs to assist his team total 178 runs in 20 overs. GT, led by Hardik Pandya, have a “all-win” record against MS Dhoni’s team so far in the league. GT won the IPL championship in their inaugural season.

CSK, who claimed the IPL championship for the fourth time in 2021, finished in second-to-last place with just four victories in 14 games. One of the most fascinating new players they have in their lineup for the IPL 2023 is England captain Ben Stokes.

David Miller won’t be available for the Titans’ opening game because he has South African national team commitments. But they’ve also got some fascinating new players this year, including Odean Smith, Josh Little, and former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson.

Williamson ruled out of the IPL

Kane Williamson of the Gujarat Titans has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to a knee injury he suffered in the tournament’s opening match in Ahmedabad against the Chennai Super Kings.

According to NZC, Williamson will return home the following week and meet with the necessary medical professionals to develop a treatment strategy.

New Zealand coach Gary Stead called the injury “a major blow” for both Williamson and the team. After the Tests and ODIs, New Zealand is currently playing T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka at home before departing for Pakistan for five T20 Internationals and the same number of ODIs. Williamson missed both of those tours since he was playing in the IPL.
