Pat Cummins to miss the final Test of BGT series

Pat CumminsAustralia captain will not part of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Test against India in Ahmedabad. In a statement released by Cricket Australia, the news has been revealed. Steve Smith will be the captain for the side in the last match of the ongoing series.

Cummins was not part of the third Test match as well that saw Australia thrashing Indian cricket team under the leadership of Steve Smith. Cummins left India just hours after his team’s loss in second Test match due to his mother’s illness. His mother, Maria is suffering from breast cancer and is in palliative care. As far as the captaincy in the three-match ODI series is concerned, Cricket Australia said, “No call has yet been made on Cummins’ availability for the three-match ODI series that follows the Tests , with the fast bowler having also been appointed as 50-over captain last year.”

Meanwhile, the stand-in captain Steve Smith has made it clear that he is done with captaincy and has no intention of doing it as this is Pat Cummins’ team. “My time as captain is done. This is Patty’s team,” Smith told reporters after the Indore Test. The Indore Test saw a brilliant performance by the Australian side and winning the Test match convincingly to make it to the World Test Championship final.

After winning the match, Smith said in the post-match presentation, “I really enjoyed this week. I like captaining in this part of the world. I feel like I understand the conditions really well and the intricacies of the game.” He added , “There’s an event every ball … it’s a lot different to the other parts of the world. I think I did a reasonable job this week.”

Jhya Richardson, Australia’s pacer was also ruled out from the One Day International series following a recurrence of a left hamstring injury while playing club cricket. Nathan Ellis has been named the replacement for Richardson in the squad.
