Yorkshire have appointed Otis Gibson as their new manager for three years.
The 52-year-old, who has been manager of the West Indies and South Africa as well as bowling coach for England, is the latest addition to Headingley’s backroom staff, the club announced.
He will officially start work at the end of February, following the end of his tie-up with Pakistan Super League side Multan Sultan.
Last month, Yorkshire announced the departure of 16 staff, including the entire coaching team.
This includes director of cricket Martin Moxon and first-team coach Andrew Gale.
The county is trying to change its people and culture after ex-player Azeem Rafiq made damaging allegations of racial harassment and bullying against the club, which resulted in the loss of sponsors and an international match at Headingley s right.
Darren Gough has since been appointed as interim managing director of cricket and Gibson will report to him, the club said. The club also said they plan to appoint two assistants to work alongside Gibson soon.
Lord Kamlesh Patel, appointed as Chapter President in November, tell the club website“We are delighted to welcome Otis to the club.
“His game and coaching qualifications speak for themselves, he’s done well at the highest level.
“Otis’ character and his commitment to the process we’re going through at Yorkshire Cricket Club was reflected in our discussions.
“I know he will encourage dialogue and help foster a culture of inclusion at the club and support and nurture the world-class talent we have here and take them to the next level.
“I look forward to working with Otis in the coming weeks and months as we continue to rebuild the club.”
Gibson’s career as an all-rounder has included spells for Durham, Glamorgan and Leicester County. He also played two Tests and 15 one-day internationals for the West Indies.
“I am very honoured and excited to have the opportunity to join Yorkshire Cricket Club as head coach,” he said.
“This is one of the most prestigious roles in county cricket in England and I am very much looking forward to working with this talented group of players to take the club forward. I have discussed at length with Goughy the direction the club is heading and I am delighted to be part of this part of the future.”
