The World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final is slowly stealing the spotlight away from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, and fans are anticipating an enthralling match between the two cricketing behemoths as India will face Australia there starting on June 7. India , The top-ranked Test team in the world, will be attempting to break their curse of failing to win an ICC competition since 2013.
India, who finished second in the first World T20 Championship, will be without key players Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pantand Jasprit Bumrah for the crucial Test. But the fact that Virat Kohli is coming off a stellar IPL 2023 season would delight the fans and Indian supporters.
The graceful Indian hitter was in excellent form during IPL 2023, scoring 639 runs in 14 games with a remarkable average of 53.25 and a striking percentage of 139.82. Former top selector MSK Prasad has forecast that Kohli will unquestionably perform for the side in the crucial match .
The years 2021–2022, according to Prasad, were not ideal for the former Indian captain. But only because he fell short of everyone’s lofty standards. Even though Kohli battled for a spell, after he regained his form, things started to look up for him.
Since the Asia Cup the previous year, Kohli has been in fantastic shape and has scored hundreds in all competitions, including the IPL. Even Prasad claimed that Kohli would be motivated to succeed this time for India because of the fact that they haven’t won an ICC tournament in years.
MSK Prasad said
“He did not have a very great 2021-22. But that is because we expect a lot from him. He has set a very high standard for himself. He has to score hundreds in every match, otherwise, it is a failure. But he is a human after all. The captaincy pressure had him struggling for a while, but once he regained his rhythm and clarity, he did not look back. He has been in amazing form since last year’s Asia Cup, and has made centuries in all formats,” Prasad was quoted by the Hindustan Times.
“He must be having in his mind that India has not won an ICC tournament for years and must be fired up to give his best to help India win. With his form, state of mind in a good place, and his seniority being above 100 Tests, I am sure he will deliver in the WTC final,” Prasad added.
