MS Dhoni will be playing his last IPL this season. Almost 42 years old, the CSK Skipper is still marshaling his troops on the field. However, this season, he has been playing with a knee injury. In one of the matches, Dhoni was also seen limping on the field while running. At the innings break during their match against Delhi Capitals, Mike Hussey, the batting coach of CSK talked about Dhoni’s knee injury.
Mike Hussey spoke during the mid-innings break
Mike Hussey mentioned that MS Dhoni’s knee is not currently at its full strength. Therefore, Dhoni is managing himself by entering the batting crease during the last 2-3 overs.
“His knee isn’t 100% at the moment (on MS Dhoni), so he’s managing himself, coming in to bat in the last 2-3 overs,” Mike Hussey said.
Hussey added that Dhoni is unable to run as effectively as he did in his prime but he is playing as a finisher as he is hitting the ball well.
“He isn’t able to run as well as he did during his heydays, but he’s doing things right and hitting the ball really well,” Hussey added.
CSK might need to be cautious with Dhoni. With playoffs approaching, they need to take care of their skipper. CSK need one win to qualify for the playoffs and stay in the top 2. There is a high possibility that CSK might play at their home ground in the Qualifer 1. This would give them advantage in the playoffs.
Meanwhile,Chennai Super Kings decided to bat against Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023 match at Delhi on Saturday. Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad put on an impressive performance that helped the team reach 223/3. Before Chetan Sakariya dismissed Gaikwad for 79(50), the pair had acc umulated 141 runs in 14.3 overs for the first wicket. Conway and Shivam Dube, who scored a 9-ball 22 before being dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed, then led CSK’s charge. Anrich Nortje dismissed the Kiwi batter for 87(52).
