In a strategic move after Pakistan’s disappointing World Cup performance, Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick, who were initially relieved of their roles with the senior men’s team, have now stepped down from their positions at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore. This follows their reassignments within the Pakistan cricket setup in November 2023, where Arthur assumed the role of Director of Pakistan men’s cricket, Bradburn as head coach, and Puttick as the batting coach.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the trio’s departure in an official release, stating that “All three individuals informed the PCB of their decision to leave their respective jobs by the end of January 2024. The decision was taken amicably between all the stakeholders. The PCB wishes them well in their future endeavours and is grateful for their services.” This departure marks the end of an era in the NCA, with the PCB expressing gratitude for the contributions made by Arthur, Bradburn, and Puttick.
The Trio’s Contribution
Mickey Arthur, the former Director of Pakistan men’s cricket and head coach from 2016 to 2019, played a pivotal role in Pakistan reaching the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test team rankings and securing the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. Mohammad Hafeez has taken on the role of Director of Pakistan men’s cricket following Arthur’s recent position. Hafeez, a seasoned cricketer, brings his wealth of experience to this crucial position, setting the stage for potential new strategies and approaches.
Grant Bradburn, who served as the fielding coach and later as the Head of High-Performance Coaching at NCA, saw Pakistan attain the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI team rankings for the first time in May 2023. With his departure, the coaching landscape at NCA undergoes a transformation, opening up opportunities for fresh perspectives and methodologies to be integrated into Pakistan’s cricket development system.
The resignations of Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick mark a significant transition in Pakistan’s cricket coaching hierarchy. The void left by these seasoned individuals will undoubtedly pave the way for new faces and strategies as Pakistan Cricket charts a course for the future.
