Meet Indian U19 pacemaker Vasu Vats who can put caution behind him

Vasu Vats, 19, from an educational background, is believed to have excelled academically and has inherited his parents’ legacy. Although his father, Sunil Kumar, was the principal of a private school, his mother taught in a public school. But unlike his parents, Watts had little interest in learning. Fate had other ideas for the young Turk.

Born in Saharapur, Uttar Pradesh, Vats used to practice hard at the Vishwamitra Cricket Academy in the city’s town of Gango. His tireless efforts paid off as he entered junior cricket at a brisk pace. The right-arm pacer took 21 wickets in 10 games for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and Challenger Trophy.

In a match in October 2021, the speedster took eight wickets and helped Uttar Pradesh beat Nagaland by a paltry 22 points in 14 rounds. The vat ended with a stunning bowling number of 7-3-4-8. UP comfortably won the game with 336 runs after six overs from 358 on the cricket pitch at Gujarat College Cricket Ground “A”.

Vasu Vats steadily make their mark

Following his bowling spell, Vats was picked to play a three-round series for India U19 B, which also includes India U19 A and Bangladesh U19. But only after a single match against India’s A U19s, the seaman was injured and subsequently ruled out. He has since moved to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore for rehabilitation.

Watts also ended up missing the 2021 Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to injury. The boys in blue won the trophy for the eighth time after beating Sri Lanka in the final.Luckily didn’t turn a blind eye to pacemakers because Vats appeared in Ashdur– Lead India’s initial 17-man squad to the 2021 West Indies U19 World Cup.

But he was later moved to the reserves along with 17-year-old batsman Aaradhya Yadav, with 15 players finalised. Six Indian players, including skipper Dhull and vice-captain Shaikh Rasheed, have tested positive for COVID-19 during the multinational tournament. The vat also contracted the virus and had to be quarantined.

However, Vats tested negative and joined the team as a temporary replacement for right-arm external spinner Manav Parakh. Vats did not feature for India’s games against South Africa U19s and Ireland U19s, but he got his chance against Uganda U19s at the Brian Lara Stadium.

He threw four pitches and picked up a wicket with an economy of 4.50.From the 2020 U19 World Cup, the Pacers Kartik Teji and Akash Singh achieved success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and secured a contract. Vasu may not have played much, but a bright future seems to be on the horizon for him.
