Kolkata Knight Riders produced a comeback for the ages as they won by 81 runs against the star-studded batting lineup of the Royal Challengers Bangalore. They created a record in this match. 9 out of 10 wickets were picked by the Kolkata spinners. happened for the first time in the history of the IPL.

Once stuttering at 89/5, the Kolkata Knight Riders riding on a masterclass by Lord Shardul Thakur scripted an epic comeback at the jam-packed Eden Gardens. Shardul with his gift of timing and a little bit of Caribbean flair tore apart the Royal Challengers lineup by scoring the fastest half-century of the tournament with a half-century. He went out to score 68 off just 29 balls to help KKR put a sizeable total of 204 runs on the board.

RCB captain made some captaincy blunders in this match. The South African opener did not continue with Shahbaz Ahemed and Karn Sharma when Shardul was at the crease. The pitch was conductive for spinners as the ball was stopping in the surface with enough purchase for the spinners . He kept feeding pace to Shardul which he kept thriving upon. Faf then brought off-spinner Bracewell to stop the Shardul onslaught but it was of no avail.

KKR spinners create havoc

Kolkata Knight Riders were clinical with the ball. Just when Kohli and Faf were looking to up the ante against pacers, Rana bought in his trump card Sunil Narine in the fourth over. Narine bamboozled Kohli through the gate and the downfall of RCB started thereafter. RCB kept losing wickets to the spinners. Narine took 2 wickets.

Varun Chakravarty showed his class as took the wickets of Faf, Maxwell, Harshal Patel, and Akashdeep Singh. 3 out of the 4 wickets were bowled. The batters failed to read his googly and thus resulted in getting bowled.

But Suyash Sharma was the surprise package of the lot. The long-haired mystery spinner took 3 wickets on his debut to help KKR pile misery over the Bangalore side. Suyash was difficult to negotiate as he kept mixing his lengths with an occasional flighted googly or wrong one bowled full at the stumps.

The loss has heavily impacted RCB’s run rate and will be looking to bounce back quickly in the upcoming matches. KKR on the other hand will be mighty pleased with their performance.
