India is geared up and ready to play the three-match T20 series against Afghanistan. This is going to be the final T20 series for Team India. BCCI has already announced the squad for the series. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are back in the squad after a 14-month gap. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are not in the squad. Buzz was going over them as they were out of the team because of disciplinary concerns. In the pre-match press conference, Team India’s coach Rahul Dravid made it all clear.
The Buzz and Coach’s Clearance:
As Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are not included in the squad, a lot of buzz was created over their exclusion from the team. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan face exclusion from the squad for the T20 series, reportedly due to disciplinary issues. The decision to drop them emerges from off-field matters, and they won’t be part of the upcoming series. Cricket enthusiasts await further details on the disciplinary grounds that led to their omission.
But Team India’s coach Rahul Dravid dismissed the buzz and revealed the real reason for their inclusion from the T20 squad against Afghanistan. In the pre-match press conference, Dravid said, “ Media reports are not true – Ishan Kishan asked for the rest, he hasn’t made himself available and Shreyas Iyer missed out due to lots of batters in the mix – no disciplinary actions, these are fake.”
India vs. Afghanistan T20 Series:
Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, India is gearing up with final preparations for the T20I series against Afghanistan, starting at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on January 11. Notably, this bilateral series serves as India’s last T20I international commitment before the World Cup kicks off on June 4.
However, India faces challenges as key players like Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav will be absent in the 1st T20I. Kohli is unavailable for personal reasons, while Pandya and Yadav are ruled out due to ankle injuries. On the other side, Afghanistan will miss the services of Rashid Khan, their crucial bowler, recovering from a recent back surgery.
