Following his injury, Williamson was taken for scans and the extent of his injury revealed that it was in the best interest of New Zealand Cricket and the player himself that he be sent back to his homeland where he could receive proper treatment. In an official statement , New Zealand Cricket announced that they would be flying Williamson back home where his situation would be closely monitored and he would be given the best treatment.

“Following his release from the Gujarat Titans with a knee injury, Kane Williamson will return to NZ to have the injury further assessed. Williamson bids adieu

Post this, the Gujarat Titans franchise posted a video confirming Williamson bidding the team camp goodbye. “Sad to be leaving so soon. I will miss the camp for sure. See you soon,” Williamson said in the video.

Before sitting in his car and leaving for the airport, Williamson also shared a message for the franchise and his teammates. “Just wanna wish the Gujarat Titans team all the best for the remainder of the season. Thank you.”, Williamson said while leaving with a heavy heart.
