Australian fast bowler Riley Meridith has replaced his countryman Jhye Richardson for the Mumbai Indians for the 16th edition of the TATA IPL 2023. In 5 T20I matches, Riley Meredith has taken 8 wickets, including a three-wicket haul. In prior IPL seasons, he played for both the Mumbai Indians and the Punjab Kings.

Before the India ODI series in March, Richardson re-aggravated hamstring problems when playing club cricket in an effort to resume play after straining a hamstring during the Big Bash League (BBL). Moreover, he was disqualified from the ODI series against India that begins on March 17. He decided to have surgery in order to discover a long-term fix.

Jhye Richardson injury

Due to severe shoulder surgery in 2019, Richardson missed the ICC Cricket World Cup and the Ashes, and his body has let him down over the past two seasons.

His first Test since his shoulder injury, in Adelaide in December 2021, saw him take his first five-wicket haul, but a niggling heel injury prevented him from playing in the following game, and he hasn’t played in the longer format since.

Richardson is known for his ability to bowl with great pace and accuracy. He has a smooth bowling action and generates good bounce off the pitch. Richardson is also a very intelligent bowler who can adjust his pace and line according to the conditions.

In his international career, Richardson has taken 49 wickets in 24 One Day Internationals (ODIs) at an average of 24.22 and an economy rate of 5.57. In Twenty20 Internationals, he has taken 18 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 18.88 and an economy rate of 7.20. He has also played two Test matches, taking five wickets.

Another Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to an Achilles Heel injury.
