Jason Roy arrives in Kolkata ahead of their important encounter against Gujarat

The Kolkata Knight Riders have roped in talented English batter Jason Roy in place of Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in the 2023 TATA IPL. Roy was acquired by Knight Riders for INR 2.8 crore (about USD 341,000); his pre-season auction base price was INR 1.5 crore (USD 183,000 approx.).

The sign of Roy was announced earlier this week, and on Saturday, the player arrived in Kolkata. On Saturday, the KKR social media team posted a photo of Roy’s arrival. It will be a significant lift for them because they need Roy to flourish in a top order that is in doubt.

In order to assist their counties in making plans for the early months of the County Championship season, the majority of English players are only allowed to sign replacement deals at the IPL before a cut-off date of March 1. The only players who may be signed after that time are those with ECB central contracts or incremental agreements. Jason Roy no longer has his primary contract, he still has an incremental one.

Jason Roy arrives in Gujarat

The English opener has arrived in Kolkata for the clash against Gujarat. The KKR social media team posted a photo of his arrival on social media.

Roy last participated in the IPL in 2021 after choosing to forgo his participation last year and taking an indefinite break from cricket. He was purchased by Gujarat Titans in the auction. Roy played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2021, scoring 150 runs from five games with an average of 30 and a strike rate of 123.96.

He was a member of the Gujarat Titans team last season but quit before the IPL began. He didn’t sell this season, but the Knight Riders were able to entice him.

Gujarat Titans will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium at 3:30 PM.
