As Josh Inglis will be returning home to give birth to his first child, James Peirson will take his place in the Australia Cricket team for the second Test against England at Lord’s. Inglis will be joining the team at a later time, but the specifics aren’t set in stone yet. In contrast, Peirson received recognition for his tremendous effort and perseverance over the previous three seasons of the Sheffield Shield.
The 30-year-old has scored five centuries and batted 1337 runs at an average of 37.13 since the start of the 2020–21 season. He is therefore in excellent shape right now, but because Alex Carey is currently available, it will be difficult for the cricket player to overtake him.
Peirson recently participated in two tours for Australia A and struck a century against Sri Lanka in 2022. He has been a part of the plan for a while, and in recent weeks, he also trained with the main team. Now, he has finally been Given the chance to play for Australia in the next Ashes 2023.
The keeper-batter had declared his desire to represent Australia in the Ashes during last year. He was passionate about and he still is, that he would be very frustrated if he were to end up not playing any Test cricket at all.
James Pierson said last year
“Obviously there’s an away Ashes next summer. I’d love to get over and play some sort of cricket in England. I’ve played premier league cricket quite a few years ago now but would love to experience those conditions again and develop my game . If I don’t play Test cricket that would be a frustration, but all I can do is when I’m done, sit in my armchair and know that I did everything I could,” Peirson told ESPNcricinfo last year.
For the WTC final against India, which is scheduled to start on June 7, the team must submit its final squad of 15 players by Sunday, May 28, after a number of Australian players depart for England on Friday, May 26.
