All eyes are on captain Rohit Sharma and the team management to get the planning and squad makeup for the ICC World Cup at home in less than two months. The middle order is highlighted, particularly No. 4. India is hoping that Suryakumar Yadav can translate his T20 abilities into ODIs while Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are still recovering from surgery.
On August 10, Team India captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged that the Men in Blue are eager to end their title drought and win the 2023 ODI World Cup. Rohit also expressed his trust in the current squad, saying that the players have the inner assurance and self-belief necessary to win a championship.
The fact that India has not captured a world championship since 2013 is no longer a mystery. The 2013 Champions Trophy is the only major championship that Team India has won in the last ten years, according to their trophy case. Sharma said that as India prepares to host the four-year showcase event, they are prepared to write history.
Rohit Sharma said
“Honestly, I have never won a (50 overs) World Cup, it’s a dream to win a World Cup and to be here fighting for it nothing makes me happier than that,” Rohit told the media on the sidelines of an event (via Indian Express).
“You don’t get World Cups on a platter, you have to really work hard and that is what we have been doing all these years from 2011 till now we all are fighting for it,” the India captain said. “Everyone is desperate to go and win because we know we have a good team. We are all good players, that inner confidence and self-belief is there that they can do it.”
India will be keenly looking to break their ICC Trophy jinx with a World Cup victory on their home soil.
