A power-packed IPL auction is going on at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. As per reports, IPL is likely to begin the journey for the 2024 edition on March 22. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled for June 4, 2024. Because of this, the IPL will be starting early. In that time, the domestic tournaments are scheduled. Reports are saying, as per BCCI’s order, the IPL venues will not host any Domestic or local matches from February onwards.
Early Arrival of IPL:
IPL is the biggest T20 tournament in the world. From starting as a normal T20 tournament to the biggest T20 league in the world, IPL walked a long way. Generally, the IPL happens in the April-May window. However, according to the sources, the upcoming edition of the IPL will be starting early. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to happen in June 2024. This is one of the reasons why the tournament is likely to start early.
There is another reason. The General election of the country is scheduled for 2024. The election schedule is not confirmed. The IPL schedule will depend on that also. For those reasons, BCCI is likely to finalize the window in March-May. In that time, the domestic season will also start. As per sources, BCCI requested the IPL venues not to arrange any domestic and local matches from February onwards.
The Ranji Trophy is scheduled from January 4 to March 14. This tournament is getting played in every state. There is a strong chance of to clash with the IPL restrictions. The state teams have to arrange alternative venues for the domestic tournament. That is going to be a challenge for them.
In a statement, BCCI said, “Usually, once the domestic season is over, the centers concerned get around three weeks or so to freshen up and be prepared for the IPL. this time, because of the parliamentary elections, the IPL is set to begin a little bit earlier.”
Later they added, “So, the BCCI, very recently, has instructed all the IPL centres to not host Ranji, club, or any other local matches from February onwards. The ground has to be kept ready so that the franchises can begin with their preparations from the first week of March itself.”
Because of the T20 World Cup, BCCI is likely to start the IPL early on March 22. The tournament will end in May. after the Covid, the tournament came back to its normal home-away schedule. Fans are ready to cheer their team.
