West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin has been ruled out of the Women’s Premier League. The hard hitter was a part of the Gujarat Giants franchise at the WPL.

Earlier today, when the foreign players for Gujarat Giants checked in with the camp before their first game against the Mumbai Indians tomorrow, Deandra Dottin was nowhere to be found. The team management has revealed that Dottin will miss the entirety of the WPL because of an injury. However, the cause and the nature of the injury are yet to be known.

Dottin, who has played 127 T20 international games for the West Indies Cricket team, has scored just 3 short of 2700 runs at an average of 25.7 and a best score of 112. She has also picked up 62 runs with the best figures of 5/ 5. Her stats show the amount of impact she has had on international cricket, and also the amount of impact she would have had on the Gujarat Giants franchise.

The Gujarat Giants franchise had roped in the Caribbean all-rounder at a price of Rs. 60 Lakhs. The team management has also named the replacement for Dottin. Australian all-rounder Kim Garth, who was unsold at the auction, will replace the injured Dottin. Earlier in the evening, the Gujarat Giants official twitter handle had revealed that Garth has landed in India and has already joined the camp.

Garth, who is a right-handed batter, and a right-arm medium-fast bowler, was a part of the 15-member squad that lifted the T20 World Cup last week. She may not be the ideal replacement for the hard-hitting  Dottin, but was probably the best available option for the franchise at such short notice. Garth has played 54 matches for Australia and has scored 762 runs and taken 43 wickets. Her strike rate could be a matter of concern though. Even after 54 games, her strike rate is still 79.04. Nonetheless, the WPL would be an amazing opportunity for the Aussie all-rounder to reinvent herself.
