India’s Rising Stars Make Their Mark in Latest ICC Rankings

In a display of their remarkable talent and promising potential, the young and relatively inexperienced Indian duo, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan, have emerged as standout performers during India’s recent 2-1 ODI series victory against the West Indies. Their exceptional contributions with the bat have not only secured a series win for the Indian team but have also earned them significant career-high ratings on the updated ICC rankings list for batters.  

Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan see a steady rise in rankings

Gill, whose prowess with the bat has been steadily growing, showcased his skills in the series against the West Indies, elevating himself by two places to claim the fifth position in the overall ODI batter rankings. With a remarkable rise to 743 rating points, he now stands within striking distance of Pakistani players Fakhar Zaman (755) and Imam-ul-Haq (745) who hold the third and fourth positions respectively.

Ishan Kishan’s electrifying performances have not gone unnoticed either. The young wicketkeeper-batsman has surged nine places to secure the 36th position on the ODI batter rankings, achieving a new career-best rating. His dynamic style of play and ability to seize the moment have undoubtedly caught the attention of cricket enthusiasts worldwide.

Hardik Pandya sees a lift in rankings alongside Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur

Veteran all-rounder Hardik Pandya, known for his impactful contributions, has also enjoyed an upward trajectory in the rankings. His impressive performances against the West Indies have propelled him ten places to share the 71st position on the ODI batter rankings. Additionally, Pandya’s prowess extends to the all-rounder category, where he has climbed five places to secure the 11th position.

While India’s batters have garnered attention, the bowling department has also witnessed significant changes in the rankings. Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav’s skilful displays have propelled him four places up the ranks, earning him a coveted spot within the top 10 at the 10th position. His seven wickets in the series against the West Indies showcased his mastery over the craft of spin bowling.

West Indies’ standout performers see change in T20 rankings

Seamer Shardul Thakur, often referred to as ‘Lord’, has risen three places to the 30th position on the ODI bowlers rankings. His pivotal role in leading both sides with eight scalps during the series against the West Indies highlights his ability to make a considerable impact on the game.

As the focus shifts to the ongoing T20I series between India and the West Indies, the Caribbean team finds solace in their standout performers. Nicholas Pooran, the power-hitting sensation, has made significant strides, rising six places to secure the 14th position on the T20I batter rankings. Alongside him, Rovman Powell has surged 17 spots to claim the 32nd position.

In the bowling department, West Indies’ Alzarri Joseph and Akeal Hosein have made remarkable strides. Joseph’s exceptional performance has earned him a leap of 19 places, securing the 13th position on the T20I bowlers rankings. Spinner Akeal Hosein, equally impressive, has risen six places to claim the 14th position, emphasizing their growing influence on the West Indies’ bowling attack.
