After winning the ODI series against South Africa, India starts preparing for the Test Series. As per the schedule, two Test matches will be played. The first Test will start on December 26 at the SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium. Players already started the preparations. Before the Test series started, Team India had two setbacks. Virat Kohli has been flown back home for a family emergency. The other one is opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out from the Test series.
Virat Kohli Returns Home:
Before playing the Test series, Team India was scheduled to play a three-day intra-squad match to prepare well. All the players of the Test squad reached South Africa a few days back. The intra-squad match is going on in Pretoria. In between this, Virat Kohli missed the match. He flies back to home for a family emergency. The exact reason is unknown but as per reports, he will be returning into the squad before the first Test match.
As the reports are saying, Virat left for home 3 days ago. BCCI granted his emergency leave. He got permission from the board and team management to skip the intra-squad match. He was not a part of the T20 and ODI series against South Africa. He is likely to be back in the Test squad on December 22.
Ruturaj’s Injury:
Ahead of the Test series, Team India received another setback. India’s young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad is injured. He has been ruled out from the upcoming Test series against South Africa. This batter sustained an injury in the second ODI match against South Africa in Port Elizabeth. He injured his finger. He missed the third ODI match of the series.
After missing the third ODI, he is all set to miss the Test series too. Before the third ODI, the BCCI medical team said, “He hasn’t fully recovered from the blow he sustained to his ring finger while fielding in the second ODI. He remains under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.” The official statement from the board is yet to come. If he misses the series, the replacement will be announced soon.
