England Test captain Joe Root claimed on Sunday that he believes he is the right man to lead England forward in a longer game format. The under-fired cricketer made the comments after the visitors came to Australia with a 146-point advantage in the last Ashes Test in Hobart to lose the Ashes series 4-0. Chasing 271 for victory, England fell from 68 unbeaten to 124 in another pathetic batting game.
Speaking after the defeat, ESPNcricinfo quoted Root as saying he would love to continue leading the team’s efforts to get things back on track. He said: “I would love to have the opportunity to lead this team forward and turn things around. Right now we are going through a very difficult phase as a group of players and we are not doing well enough. But I would love to have the chance to try and turn things around and let us Start looking for the performance you expect from your English testing team, which we’ve been lacking lately.”
