Here’s the reason why Tim Southee is not playing today’s IPL match against Gujarat Titans

In a crucial development in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team has announced a change in its Playing 11 for today’s game against the Gujarat Titans. New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson has replaced Tim Southee in the team due to Southee’s expensive performance in the last two games.

Expensive Southee

Southee had given away 79 runs in just 6 overs with an economy rate of 13.17 in the previous two matches, managing to pick up only two wickets. In a bid to strengthen their bowling attack, KKR has brought in Ferguson as a replacement for Southee.

In addition to Tim Southee’s expensive performance, the decision to replace him with Lockie Ferguson was also influenced by the latter’s return to full fitness. Lockie Ferguson had missed the previous two games due to health concerns, but after a successful recovery, he is now deemed 100% fit and ready to join the KKR team in their quest for victory.

Ferguson’s inclusion in the team brings a much-needed boost to KKR’s bowling attack, as he is known for his impressive pace and ability to take wickets. In 35 IPL games so far, Ferguson has picked up 36 wickets at an economy rate of 8.43. He was a member of the Gujarat Titans camp last season and was traded to KKR ahead of this season’s start.

Apart from this, the KKR team has also made two other changes to its Playing 11 for today’s game. Suyash Sharma has found a place in the team, while Venkatesh Iyer will make a comeback as an impact player in the second innings.

With these changes, KKR is hoping to put up a strong performance against the Gujarat Titans and secure a crucial win in the IPL 2023 season. The fans are eagerly waiting to see how the new-look team performs in this crucial encounter.
