Here’s the reason why Liam Livingstone is not playing in RR vs PBKS Match 8

Match 8 of the Indian Premier League is being played between Sanju Samson led Rajasthan Royals and Shikhar Dhawan led Punjab Kings. Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, Punjab are coming into the game without the services of their star all rounder Liam Livingstone

Why is Liam Livingstone not playing today?

The Punjab Kings have suffered a significant blow as their star overseas player, Liam Livingstone, is still unable to participate in the ongoing 16th edition of the tournament. The England cricketer has been grappling with a knee injury for a few months now and has not received clearance from the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to play in the IPL 2023 season. Furthermore, reports indicate that Livingstone has not even joined the Punjab Kings squad in India yet.

In the absence of Livingstone, the Punjab Kings had to field a different set of overseas players for their first game against the Kolkata Knight Riders, which included Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Sam Curran, Sikandar Raza, and Nathan Ellis. They have decided to stick with the same combination for today’s match against the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati, without making any changes to their playing 11. This could prove to be a challenging situation for the Punjab Kings, as Livingstone is a valuable player with a proven track record in the IPL.

Livingstone was added to the Punjab King roster after the franchise purchased the English all rounder for a whopping sum of 11.5 crores. He was able to justify this high price point as he went on to score 437 runs for the team at a mammoth strike rate of 180+. Not only that, he also pitched in with his part time spin bowling at times and picked up 6 wickets during the tournament. After such a riveting performance, Livingston was retained by the franchise for this season. However, owing to his health Concerns, he is yet to participate this year.
