Does Rohit Sharma need a break from cricket? Boucher has his say

Rohit Sharmathe captain of the Mumbai Indians, is having a bad IPL 2023 season. The 36-year-old has played in seven games thus far, scoring 181 runs while, more importantly, failing to provide the five-time champions strong starts.

Sunil Gavaskar, a famous cricketer, then encouraged Rohit to take a break from cricket so he can rest up for the World Test Championship’s conclusion.

Head coach of Mumbai Indians,Mark Boucher objected with the idea, saying the cricketer doesn’t need any break to regain his rhythm. In the interim, he made it clear that it is not his decision to make but that MI needs him on the pitch since he is a great player and a good leader.

Mark Boucher said

“No, I don’t think he should take rest. That’s not my call to make. Obviously, we want Rohit playing, because he’s a very good player, and a leader as well, If it is the best for Rohit, and he comes up to me and says ‘you know, I need a bit of a break’ then yes, we will address that, and I will consider that. He hasn’t done that. So yes at the moment, if he is available to play, he will play,” Boucher was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda in the pre-match press conference.

On the eve of Rohit’s 36th birthday, the former cricketer said he has seen Rohit’s development into a terrific cricketer and a strong leader. He added that Rohit is performing well when batting in the nets and has already finished the task assigned to him earlier in the season.

“I think Rohit is in good form. He has been hitting the ball really well in the nets. Just the other day, he got some good runs for us. He’s playing a nice and aggressive brand of cricket. He’s fulfilled the role that we have needed him to fulfill in this season so far. If Rohit plays aggressively as he has, he can be devastating for any opposition,” Boucher mentioned.

On his 36th birthday, Rohit Sharma will be looking for a full performance from his team when they take on the aggressive Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium. Additionally, it would be the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 1000th game. There was a small ceremony kept ahead of the thousandth IPL match.
