Former Indian captain Dilip Vengsarkar criticized Sourav Ganguly, Chairman of the Cricket Control Council of India (BCCI), for expressing opinions on behalf of the selectors on Virat Kohli’s dismissal as ODI captain. According to Vengsarkar, Ganguly has no right to talk about Kohli’s layoffs because this is the jurisdiction of the selector. The former batsman also criticized the way BCCI handled the cancellation of Kohli

BCCI President Gangouli claimed in the media that he personally asked Corley not to resign as the T20 captain. However, at a press conference before India’s departure for South Africa, Kohli refuted Ganguly’s statement and said that no one had ever discussed this with him. He also said that one and a half hours before the selection of the test team on December 8, he was told that he was fired as the one-day captain.

Regarding the dispute, Vengsarkar told The Khaleej Times, “The whole thing is very unfortunate. I think the cricket committee should handle this matter more professionally. The problem is that Ganguly is not qualified to speak on behalf of the selection committee. Ganguly is the chairman of BCCI. Anything about selection. Or the question of the team leader, the chairman of the selection committee should speak.”

Vengsarkar also believes that BCCI’s method of dismissing Kohli was unprofessional and that the test team leader would be hurt by the development of the matter. The former Indian cricket player said: “Ganguly talked about the whole thing. Obviously Virat wanted to make his case clear. I think it should be between the chairman of the selection committee and the captain. The captain is selected or removed by the selection committee. , This is not the jurisdiction of Ganguly at all.

“Yes, things should change now. Kohli, you have to respect him. He has done a lot for the country and a lot for Indian cricket. But how they treat him, definitely hurt him,” Vinsaka added .

After Corley was removed, Rohit Sharma was appointed as the new day captain of the Indian team. Kohli will lead the test team in a series of three games in South Africa, starting with the Boxing Day game at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
