Dhoni shows he’s still got it, Dhoni Review System strikes again

On a hotly contested day of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the match between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) was in full swing. Fans were waiting for the drama to unfold as it always does and Mahendra Singh Dhoni gave them exactly what they needed.

Dhoni appeals

It was the second ball of the eighth over, and the atmosphere at the ground was electric. CSK’s spinner, Mitchell Santner, was getting ready to bowl to MI’s out-of-form batter, Suryakumar Yadav.

As Santner began his bowling action, he could see Suryakumar getting into position for a sweep shot. Sensing the batsman’s intentions, Santner quickly pushed through a flatter and quicker delivery, which skidded down the leg side. Suryakumar failed to connect with the ball, and it went through to CSK’s legendary wicketkeeper and captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, behind the stumps. Dhoni immediately went up in appeal, thinking he had Suryakumar’s wicket.

However, the umpire signaled it as a wide, much to the disappointment of the CSK players and fans. But, interestingly, Suryakumar had already started walking off the pitch, thinking he had missed the ball. However, he noticed the umpire signal a wide and decided to wait.

But, Dhoni was convinced….

MS Dhonion the other hand, was convinced that Suryakumar had edged the ball, and he immediately reviewed the decision after his appeal for caught behind was turned down. The replays showed a faint spike on the UltraEdge technology, indicating that Suryakumar had indeed gloved the ball behind to Dhoni. The umpire had to change his decision, and Suryakumar was given out.

Dhoni Review System once again proved to be a game-changer, and the fans erupted in cheers for their captain. It was a moment of intense drama, and it showcased the amount of game sense Dhoni carries with him and why he is regarded as one  of the best wicketkeepers in the world. The game continued to ebb and flow, but the impact of that review was felt throughout the match.
