Dasun Shanaka can hit the leather a country mile and when he hits the ball it stays hit. The fact that he plays at a strike rate of 140.96 shows how lethal he can be with the bat in hand. Shanaka has given an account of his stupendous self in Sri Lanka’s ongoing three-match T20I series against India. In the first game, he couldn’t make much of an impact after scoring a mere three runs.

In the second game on Saturday, February 26, he smashed an unbeaten 47 off 19 balls with the help of two fours and five sixes. To his sheer dismay, his knock went in vain as the Men in Blue won the game by seven wickets with 17 balls left. In the third match on Sunday, February 27, Shanaka turned up with a valuable 38-ball knock of 74 when his team was under extreme pressure.

Shanaka started playing his shots when the Lankans were reduced to 60 for five in only the 13th over. During his knock, he smashed nine fours and two sixes. In the meantime, he smacked one of those sixes off one hand. In the second ball of the final over of the Lankan innings, Shanaka carted Harshal Patel for a colossal six over the deep mid-wicket region.

Patel bowled a short delivery and Shanaka played the shot across the line. During this while, Shanaka’s right hand came off his bat. Yet the shot had enough power for the ball to sail over the boundary ropes with relative ease. Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper, nodding his head in approval as he seemed to have liked the shot.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Lankan found themselves in quite a bit of strife. Pathum NissankaDanushka Gunathilaka, Charith Asalanka and Janith Liyanage couldn’t get into double digits. Dinesh Chandimal scored 22, but he couldn’t go above a run-a-ball.
