After the hosts defeated India with 7 wickets in the third T20I and won the three-game series 2-1, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka cheered for his bowler. Shanaka thinks this is the best bowling game Sri Lanka has played in the past few years.
India hit the ball first after winning the final T20I match in Colombo on Thursday. However, as captain Shikhar Dhawan died without scoring, they started a terrible start. India could never recover from the setbacks, and since then it has continuously lost its regular wickets. They ended up leading 8 to 81 in 20 shots. Kuldeep Yadav scored the highest score for the Indian team with 23 unbeaten games.
As Dhananjaya de Silva (23 not out) and Wanindu Hasaranga (14 not out) led them across the finish line, Sri Lanka won easily with 14.3 points. After the victory, Shanaka said: “I should thank BCCI, in this case they agreed to participate in the competition. Special thanks to Rahul Dravid and Shikhar Dhawan.”
Regarding the team’s performance, he added, “This is our best (bowling) time in the past few years. I have (bowling) options and use them. Not only me, but all the boys work very hard. They are eager to win, They want to be world-class. The way Chameera started, Wanindu bowling, how peaceful DDS is, Karunaratne is the gem of SL cricket. All the boys did the right job. They handled the situation well and used it well. I am lucky to lead this team. When the score is low, it would be great if you had a more positive start. But they are still young and still learning, and the future will be better.”
The Indian team Dawan admitted that this is a difficult situation for the team. He revealed that as a team, they decided to stay and play the last two games. Dwann praised the boys and said: “I am also proud of the boys. They have shown outstanding personalities in the last two games. Their attitude is amazing. We also want to win, in every game you study. During the game. This is the fourth day off for our batting department. We have lost too many wickets and SL played very well. When you lose the early wickets, you will be under a lot of pressure, so happy we are Entering the 80s, this is all we manage today.”
In a chat with Sri Lankan players after the game, Davan added: “Sri Lankan boys want to know my process, I just share my experience. I hope they enjoy listening. And congratulations to the Sri Lanka team.”
India may return home now, but Krunal Pandya, who is positive for COVID, will have to stay in Sri Lanka until he completes isolation and tests negative.
