Venue for WPL 2024:
The Women’s Premier League was inaugurated in 2023. Five teams participated in the tournament. The whole tournament was organized in Mumbai. All matches were played at the Wankhede Stadium, DY Patil Stadium, and Braborne Stadium. The final was organized at the Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai Indians lifted their Maiden WPL trophy in the inaugural season of the tournament.
For the second season, BCCI is thinking of having a twist in the venue. As per reports, BCCI is thinking of arranging this edition of the tournament in multiple cities. The venues are not confirmed yet. Four cities are on their target. The cities are Lucknow, Kanpur, Chennai and Bangalore. According to the sources, Lucknow and Kanpur are the favorites.
Just like the IPL, WPL become a favorite since the inaugural season of the tournament. Before that, BCCI didn’t arrange a T20 league in women’s cricket at the international level. In the first season, it turned out as a successful one. Harmanpreet Kaur led Mumbai Indians to win the maiden trophy of this tournament.
On December 9, the auction of WPL 2024 was organized in Mumbai. In that auction, some unbelievable records were made. After some intense bidding, India’s all-rounder Kashvee Gautam became the most expensive uncapped player in WPL 2024. Gujarat Giants won the battle and purchased her is a whopping amount of 2 crores. The Aussie player, Abbabel Sutherland became the most expensive foreign player at the cost of 2 crore.
