BCCI President Suraf Ganguly was again under the influence of scanners as senior journalists questioned his alleged attendance at a selection committee meeting held during his tenure as chairman of the Indian Cricket Board.
The accused Ganguly sat with the selection panel at every meeting and could exercise control to influence decisions made by lead selector Chetan Sharma and his team.
The allegation was made by renowned India Today journalist Vikrant Gupta while discussing the Aaj Tak show “Cricket Adda”. Vikrant raised the matter with journalist Nikhil Naz, questioning Suraf Ganguly’s alleged presence at a selection committee meeting.

Vikrant went on to question whether the idea behind Surav Ganguly’s participation in the selection meeting was to exercise his control and power to try and “destroy” Indian men’s team drafter, captain and coach?
Naz, who initially questioned whether Ganguly attended selection committee meetings, said there is no cricket committee constitution anywhere in the world that allows a president to attend meetings directly related to the selection of a Park team.
Vikrant says there may be exceptions “big” Decisions that may have to be made, but the chair of the board sitting with the selection panel cannot be the norm.
Naz cited the example of former Indian batsman and former selector Mohinder Amarnath, who resigned in 2012, suggesting that then BCCI president N Srinivasan would not let him work in absolute freedom.

The accusation comes at a time when Sourav Ganguly was alternately accused of maintaining an agenda against Virat Kohli. Kohli, who was unceremoniously sacked from ODI captaincy and both sides relinquished T20I and Test leadership roles, made contrasting comments about Ganguly in the context of his post-World Cup move at T20.
While Ganguly said in an interview that he asked Kohli to reconsider his move to relinquish the T20I captaincy, Kohli said that when he expressed his position to the board and selection staff, he was “encourage” in that direction.
However, Ganguly’s remarks were echoed by Chetan Sharma when he announced the ODI team for the South African tour and also clarified that the reason for removing Kohli from the Over-50 captaincy was that they did not want two white captains.
