Baby AB! The next AB de Villiers at the U19 World Cup in South Africa

South African batting legend AB de Villiers recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, but it looks like we’ve got his successor ready to take over the world again. Devald BrevisSouth Africa, currently in the U19 World Cup in the Caribbean, showed his similarities to De Villiers in their opening match against India’s U19s.

Batting at No. 3 and chasing 233 goals, Brevis hit a stellar 65 on 99 field goals, including six fours and two sixes.

The 17-year-old has been involved in three key partnerships and has been chasing South Africa for as long as he’s been there. On his knock, he hit some great shots that reminded everyone of AB de Villiers.

When Brevis turned 50, his teammates were also seen holding placards that read “Baby AB” acknowledging his milestone from where they were dug up. It shows how much trust his teammates have in him and his abilities. Not only that, but Brevis is also wearing the No. 17 jersey that de Villiers used to wear with great pride throughout his career.

In addition to his 65 overs, Brevis also took two wickets in 7.5 overs he pitched. However, his all-out effort did not prove to be enough as South Africa still lost the game by 44 points.

India U19 skipper Yash Dhull led from the front with 82 innings. Left-arm spinner Vicky Ostwal broke the back of South Africa’s batting lineup with 5/28.
