AB de Villiers opines that IND vs SA Test Series should be a 3-4 match Test Series

With just one last match left in the ongoing 5-match Test Series between India and Australia, Team India will kick off a month-long tour of South Africa to play a multi-format series the next month, which will commence on December 10. The tour will start with a 3-match Test Series, 3-match ODI Series and then conclude with a 2-match Test Series. The Test Series will be led by skipper Rohit Sharma for Team India after missing out on the white-ball series as the 36-year-old wants to have a break after a hectic World Cup schedule.

Counting on more Test matches

Former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers spoke on the fact that India and South Africa deserve more number of Test matches than just two. The legendary cricketer opined that these two teams have a great history together and two Tests aren’t enough.

“It is frustrating (2 tests) from a South African point of view. India gets their share of 3–4 tests per series when they play in India. India, Australia, and England get these Test matches. It is a shame because these two teams have a great rivalry and have such a great history. Indian players love coming to South Africa. Two Tests does not do justice to the rivalry”, de Villiers remarked.

De Villiers’ expectations from the pitches

The 39-year old cricketer also affirmed on his expectations from the South Africa pitches, stating in detail what he would expect from his homeground pitch if he was in the squad.

He remarked “If I had been in the SA camp, I would have asked wickets with pace and bounce. These are the two things that will help South Africa beat India. Not so much seam movement, as the Indian pacers can also extract that. The Indian squad has a bit more class and are hungrier to win it here, while South Africa have the conditions in their favor.”
