A Trailblazer in Test Cricket

Team India is facing England in the second Test of the five-match Test series in Vizag. This match is going interesting in every passing moment. Day 2 of the match has seen Yashasvi’s double ton and Bumrah’s excellence. Jasprit Bumrah became the fastest Indian fast bowler to complete 150 wickets in Test cricket. Along with this incredible record, Bumrah touched new highs. In this article, we will explore those milestones.

Jasprit Bumrah’s Excellence:

On February 2, Team India met England for the second Test match in Vizag. After facing a defeat of 28 runs in the first Test match, Team India was hungry to bounce back. Since the beginning, India tried to dominate the opponent. In the first innings, Yashasvi dominated the opponent with his exceptional double-century.

In the second innings, it was Bumrah’s turn. The veteran Indian pacer was amazing as always. He dominated the English batter with his amazing spell. In this match, Joe Root was his first wicket. After that, he picked up Ollie Pope on 23 runs. Bairstow ended his innings on 25 runs. Ben Stokes was stunned by Bumrah’s dismissal delivery to him. The bowler ended the day with 6 wickets in 45 runs.

Bumrah’s New Milestone:

This spell of Bumrah earned him some incredible records.  While taking the fourth wicket, he became the fastest Indian fast bowler to complete 150 wickets in Test cricket. Along with that,  Bumrah boasts a remarkable Test bowling average of 20.28, placing him among the elite. Only England’s Sydney Barnes, who played until 1914, surpasses Bumrah with a lower average of 16.43, having picked 189 wickets in 27 Tests. Bumrah’s strike rate of 44.7 stands out, surpassed only by Kagiso Rabada (39.2), Barnes (41.6), Dale Steyn (42.3), and Waqar Younis (43.4). This places Bumrah in an impressive league of Test bowlers with exceptional averages and strike rates.

Jasprit Bumrah claimed the title of the fastest Indian to reach 150 Test wickets, achieving this milestone in 6781 deliveries. He surpassed Umesh Yadav’s previous record of 7661 deliveries comfortably. Among Asian pacers, only Waqar Younis achieved the feat in fewer Tests (27) than Bumrah’s 34. Bumrah’s rapid ascent to 150 wickets not only sets a new Indian record but places him in esteemed company among the fastest pacers in Asian cricket history.

Bumrah’s impressive figures of 6/45 mark the best performance by an Indian seamer at home in this century. Umesh Yadav is the only other seamer to achieve a similar feat during this period, securing 6/88 against West Indies in Hyderabad in 2018. Javagal Srinath was the last Indian seamer to match or surpass Bumrah’s figures, claiming 6/45 against New Zealand in Mohali back in 1999. Bumrah’s exceptional bowling puts him in a rare category among Indian seamers on home turf.

On the second day of the second Test match, the England side struggled in the match. While batting in the second innings, they faced difficulties playing against the Indian bowling attack. Zak Crawley scored 76 runs in 78 balls. Skipper Ben Stokes missed his well-deserved half-century just by three runs. They got all out by 253 runs. Team India ended day 2, on 28/0.
