Indian men’s national team captain Sunil Chetri and other football players joined forces to welcome the stars of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, which begins on January 20.
In the tribute video, Chhetri joined national team guardian Gurpreet Singh, attacking midfielder Brandon Fernandes, goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh and rising star Lalengmawia Ralte to show their support for the game.
Chetri, India’s all-time leading goalscorer, believes India will be a gracious host.

“The AFC India Women’s Asian Cup 2022 is the largest women’s national team tournament in Asia. We (India) are honoured to host this competition,” Chhetri said in a media statement on Tuesday.
“I am very confident that all participating teams will play at their highest level and fans in Asia will love watching the game on TV.
The 37-year-old striker added: “I want the best from all teams and the best team to win.”
As part of the Goa football team that won the 2019-2020 Indian Premier League, Fernandes sent his best wishes to the team. “To all the teams, I wish you all the best. I wish you a warm welcome in our country,” he said.
