Ashes “online”, Root wants England to replicate Butler’s battle

Captain Jorut said on Monday that England could not feel sorry for themselves after losing their second Ashes Test against Australia and falling 2-0 in a five-game series.

Despite Jos Butler’s stubborn resistance, England was defeated for four days in the series opener in Brisbane, but lost for the second time in a row in Adelaide.

“The ashes are here, if it’s not motivation, I don’t know what it is,” Rutte said after his team lost 275 games in the day and night test.

Butler’s 26 runs of 207 balls delayed Australia’s winning charge for some time. Rutte said this should be the blueprint for the remaining games of Melbourne, Sydney and Hobart.

“Ultimately, this is the attitude and mentality we must use in the next five days,” Root said.

“I am very proud of the way the players fight today. This attitude and desire are exactly what we need throughout the test match.

“I think Jos did a great job on that court. He should gain more confidence from it.”

When asked if he chose the wrong team for Adelaide, Root said his bowler should use the pink ball to make a more complete shot.

“We need to be brave and pass the ball there,” he said.

“For me, the most disappointing thing is the number of off-balls we have been bowling. We don’t think Australia is much better than us under these conditions. We are playing better than before.”

He said that faith is essential in trying to return to the series.

“We need to believe that we need to keep learning, we need to learn faster. We cannot make the same mistakes we have made so far. We need to have the same attitude as we do today,” Rutte added.

“If we do this, I believe that we have everything we need, but we can’t make mistakes. We need partnerships and great contributions.”

After being hit in the groin a few minutes ago, Root was disappointed that he passed the last ball to Mitchell Starc on Sunday night.

He was also injured in the same area during practice early in the morning.

“I felt guts last night. Yesterday was a difficult day. I was angry with myself. I should be able to stay today and put on cushions and lead by example,” he said.
