Alex Carey will be the Australian goalkeeper for the first two Ashes Tests, replacing former captain Tim Paine, who is mentally healthy due to the “sex texting” scandal.
The 30-year-old player will make his debut in the Ashes opener in Brisbane. He has represented Australia in 45 one-day international matches and 38 T20 matches.
“Alex has always been a frequent visitor to the white ball cricket national team, especially during one day’s game,” the chairman of the selection committee, George Bailey, said in a statement on Thursday.
“He is an excellent cricket player and an excellent individual who will bring a lot of power to the team.

Carey is more popular than the uncapped goalkeeper Josh Inglis, who returned to his hometown of Western Australia this week and is preparing to represent the Australian “A” team against the English Lions.
“I feel very humbled by this opportunity. For a huge series in the future, this is an exciting accumulation,” Carey said.
“My focus is to prepare and play my role to help Australia protect the ashes.”
Carey’s choice in the Australian 15-man Ashes came after Payne decided to quit cricket for health reasons.
Paine resigned as captain four years ago after the news of an investigation for sending explicit pornographic information to a former Tasmanian cricket team staff came to light.
