Novak Djokovic will most likely not defend his Australian Open title. Any player planning to participate in the 2022 Australian Open starting on January 17 must be vaccinated against COVID-19. Because of these agreements, Novak Djokovic’s father, Srjan Djokovic, said his son might not participate in the game.

Srdjan Djokovic said in an interview with Serbian TV about the upcoming event that he will not see his son participate in the game unless the vaccine restrictions are changed.

“Under these extortions and conditions, he may not [play]. I would not do that. He is my son, so you decide for yourself,” Srjan Djokovic said. According to BBC Sports Report“…As far as vaccines and non-vaccinations are concerned, it is the personal right of each of us whether to be vaccinated…No one has the right to enter our intimate relationship.”

Srdjan Djokovic added that he did not know whether Novak Djokovic was vaccinated, and even if he knew, he would not share this information with the public.

After the recent ATP Finals, the 34-year-old player did not clearly answer whether he will participate in the first Grand Slam in 2022.

“We have to wait and see. We have to wait and see. I haven’t talked to them yet [Australian Open organizers], Honestly. I’m just waiting to hear the news, now I know we can only wait and see,” Djokovic said. According to Eurosport.

According to BBC Sports, most players are expected to be vaccinated at the start of the game. Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley (Craig Tiley) said that 85% of professional players are vaccinated, and expect this number to rise to “between 90-95%” in the next two months. Fans and staff at the event must also be vaccinated.

As part of his 20 Grand Slam victories, Djokovic won the most nine victories in the Australian Open. He is tied with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the most male Grand Slam titles.
