TOKYO, Jan. 17, 2022 — (JCN Newswire) — TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s Nasser Al-Attiyah and co-driver Mathieu Baumel brought back their GR DKR Hilux T1+ safely in the final stages of the 2022 Dakar Rally, finishing 27 A total of 46 minutes to win the race. This is the Qatari driver’s second victory for the team, having previously won the event in 2019. Meanwhile, Henk Rutgen and Brett Cummings won the race by 49 seconds in the closing stages of the rally.

For Nasser and Mathieu, although the navigation was challenging, there were few real issues in the final stages. The pair took the rally lead in the opening stages of the event and were never in danger of giving up the spot. They won the 2022 Rally on Jan. 1 and won two more stages on their way to the championship.
The victory is significant for Nasser, who has expressed his desire to win in the Arab world since Dakar first moved to Saudi Arabia in 2020. He came very close in 2020 and 2021 before taking his maiden victory in Saudi Arabia in 2022. At the same time, the victory was significant for the team developing the new GR DKR Hilux T1+, which features larger wheels and Tires, more wheel travel, and the same 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that powers the new Toyota Land Cruiser GR Sport.
