The red knot that migrates from the south to the southern Tierra del Fuego of Argentina to the Canadian Arctic every year. This is a water bird that is endangered and threatened by the Federation. In the second phase of the project, WRP will attach satellite tags to red knots migrating southward. These red knots will stop at the Brigantine Natural Area in Atlantic County, New Jersey, and Stone Harbor Point in Cape May County, and Lago, Brazil. On the birds of Speyside, they migrated north. These tags will allow the satellite to collect up to 60 points of information, including the precise location of each bird, flight path and changing altitude. The data collected will be related to meteorological conditions (ie wind speed, wind direction, visibility and precipitation). The data will be collected in near real time and will be analyzed more comprehensively by researchers and Atlantic Shores.

The Atlantic Coast will use these data to address the risks to these birds and the surrounding environment because they have developed offshore wind energy projects in lease areas 10-20 miles from the coast of New Jersey.
