Softbank Corporation (TYO:9434, “SoftBank”)) and OneWeb today announced a mutual cooperation agreement to promote OneWeb’s satellite communication services in the global and Japanese markets. SoftBank and OneWeb will promote satellite communications services, including advanced communications and digital conversion (DX) platform services, through a combination of OneWeb services and SoftBank services.

SoftBank and OneWeb will cooperate in market development in Japan and global markets, and jointly participate in technology and product development to enhance their competitiveness in these markets. This cooperation includes obtaining regulatory approval and establishing a ground station in Japan.
In order to provide Internet connectivity on a global scale and enable digitalization and innovation of the analog industry, SoftBank aims to provide advanced seamless connection services and DX platform services by using a global connectivity solution that integrates OneWeb services.
On April 26, 2021, OneWeb successfully launched 36 satellites into its constellation. This successful launch brings the total on-orbit constellation of OneWeb’s 648 LEO satellite fleet to 182 satellites. OneWeb will test its network and conduct a demonstration to prepare for commercial services in areas north of 50 degrees north latitude before the end of the year, and to conduct commercial services on a global scale in 2022.
