Listen to Ron Price’s full interview with Adam Torres Mission Matters Business Podcast.

How did your leadership career begin?

He said that Price was surrounded by entrepreneurs in his childhood: he and his father ran a family business, and learned early on that entrepreneurship is not just about making money, but also building strong relationships with customers and employees. Today, he explained that his main motivation is to help business leaders understand that it is best to make money by embodying a set of values, being noble and serving a purpose.

What advice do you have for leaders who prioritize making money rather than serving others?

Price warned that people who only focus on brand finances increase the risk of losing business. He explained that money is the result of your hard work over the years. Although money is essential, if you want to make money, you need to pay attention to the needs of customers, maintain a strong sense of community among employees, and be loyal to the core goals of the company.

What advice do you have for leaders who are suitable for entry-level employees, mid-career executives, and entrepreneurs?

Price says that leaders can influence others in a positive or negative way, and those who care about being a positive influence must first develop themselves internally.

He said that this may happen in one of two development paths: an organizational path through which emerging leaders learn how to lead others in the organization and help them reach their full potential; and a technical expertise path through which , You can focus on specific things and create new products or services that may even change the world.

Price explained that no matter which path a leader takes, some things remain the same: for example, taking responsibility can help a person understand themselves better, and accepting the approval of others can help you realize your potential. And your investment in others is directly proportional to the influence you leave behind. He said that reflection and celebration are two underrated but very important activities.

How does one take the first step towards leadership?

Price said that most people who want to be leaders will not just be randomly invited to the stage by someone unless they have already demonstrated their potential. Some people prefer to move quickly and say “yes” to everything they encounter, while others are more precise with every step of the path they choose. He emphasized that not every offer you receive will give you a chance to grow. Similarly, not every offer you refuse will derail you.

He said that you must first understand yourself before you can respond to any form of invitation and fully understand its impact on your career.

Which minefields should leaders avoid?

Price said that influence brings power, and power can quickly corrupt a person. He provides three key areas to avoid this trap: keep shaping your character, don’t go too far, help others and accept their help in a cooperative circle, understand what is beyond your control and refuse to let it. Take up too much of your attention or energy.
