  • Easy-to-use workflow can detect T cell responses during COVID-19 infection or early after vaccination
  • The detection of T cells can provide important insights to complete the picture of the SARS-CoV-2 immune response—not just serology
  • Cell-mediated immunity can also be assessed in vaccinated individuals

QIAGEN NV (New York Stock Exchange code:QGEN, Frankfurt Prime Standard: QIA)) today announced its QuantiFERON CE mark® The SARS-CoV-2 assay measures the response of T cells to SARS-CoV-2 and helps to assess the immunity of individuals who have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The COVID-19 vaccine stimulates the body to produce antibodies and activate T cells to fight SARS-CoV-2 infection. Serological tests that measure antibodies usually produce positive test results after vaccination, but cannot assess cellular responses. QuantiFERON® The SARS-CoV-2 test can detect CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses, which enables a more comprehensive assessment of the immunity produced by the COVID-19 vaccine.

QuantiFERON® SARS-CoV-2 detection is based on QIAGEN’s QuantiFERON® Interferon-gamma release technology, which is recognized globally as an easy-to-use T cell detection method using whole blood, and unlike other T cell detection methods, it does not require purified lymphocytes to perform T cell detection.

“T cells provide valuable insights into our immune system’s response to COVID-19,” said Jean-Pascal Viola, QIAGEN’s senior vice president and head of the molecular diagnostics business area. “The more we know…
