The U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army are evaluating the capabilities of Isotropic Systems’ optical beamforming antennas through the Innovative Defense Experiment (DEUCSI) program using the Commercial Space Internet, enabling frontline armed forces to simultaneously access high-speed, real-time data on multiple commercial and military satellites.

The first phase of the dual-beam test conducted at the Harwell Science and Technology Innovation Park near Oxford, UK successfully demonstrated the transformation optics at the core of the Isotropic Systems multi-beam terminal, which is fully capable of linking with multiple satellites at the same time.

The over-the-air (OTA) test conducted at the SES transmission point in Port St. Lucie, Florida, as part of the first phase, has verified that Isotropic Systems’ high-performance multi-beam platform meets the military requirements for acquiring and tracking the SES O3b MEO satellite.

The second phase of the test will test Isotropic Systems’ latest antenna prototypes through the link to SES satellites in geostationary orbit (GEO) and medium earth orbit (MEO), demonstrating seamless satellite-to-satellite transition and redundancy and flexibility of wartime communications leap.

The DEUCSI trial will end in 2021, before Isotropic Systems plans to commercially launch the production of optical multi-beam antennas in 2022, and in time to support SES’s new high-throughput MEO constellation satellites, the groundbreaking O3b mPOWER system.
