The first trade show after the pandemic opens to the public for the first time
Hong Kong, July 25, 2021-(ACN Newswire)-The 37th HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show and the 7th HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and The Pearl Exhibition will be held today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center (HKCEC) until July 29. The dual exhibitions are the first two physical trade exhibitions held by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council since the outbreak of the epidemic, and for the first time they were held in a mixed form of physical and online exhibitions. The online exhibition will last until August 5 to help global jewellers seize business opportunities during the pandemic.

The physical exhibition attracted nearly 440 exhibitors and was opened to the public who loves jewelry for the first time. As travel restrictions between Hong Kong and the rest of the world are still in effect, most exhibitors are local companies. However, some overseas exhibitors have sent local representatives to participate in the exhibition, representing companies from Germany, Switzerland, the United States, Italy and India. Some overseas exhibitors also joined the online exhibition. In addition to local trade buyers, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council has mobilized its 50 global offices to invite overseas buyers to participate in the exhibition and conduct business transactions through video conferences.
Hong Kong exports of pearls, gems and rough diamonds increase by 83.1%
As the global economy begins to recover, and the low base in the same period in 2020, Hong Kong’s high-end jewelry exports have grown substantially in the first five months of 2021, increasing by 82.3% year-on-year to a total of 28.65 billion Hong Kong dollars. In terms of raw materials, the total export value of pearls, gems and rough diamonds during the same period this year increased by 83.1% to 57.24 billion Hong Kong dollars. The total export value of fine jewelry has returned to the level before the pandemic, and the export prospects of pearls, gems and rough diamonds are optimistic.
Confidence in the retail market has also risen accordingly. The provisional figures for retail sales for the first five months of 2021 are HK$146.31 billion, an increase of 8.9% year-on-year. Sales of jewellery, watches and precious gifts also increased significantly, with an increase of 34.2%. The jewellery industry is heavily dependent on the retail industry, which is still hampered by continued travel restrictions and compulsory quarantine measures. The full recovery of business and leisure tourism still depends on the epidemic situation.
