Beverly Hills, July 29, 2021 (Global News Service)-Higher Education Specialist Bakhtyor Isoyev Two new episodes of the Education and Empowerment podcast were released. These episodes interviewed Ryan Akers, student employment coordinator and career consultant at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California, and Thomas Torres-Gil, director of the International Office of Peralta Community College District in northern Alameda County, California. In the just-released episode, Akers and Torres-Gil discussed how technological advancement can improve community colleges and how challenges outside the classroom can affect students’ long-term success.
Addressing the needs of non-traditional students
Akers explained in episode 10 that there are more non-traditional students in universities than ever before. “It’s not just (just)’typical’ students between the ages of 18 and 22… international, refugees, older generations, and even 15 or 16-year-old higher education students.” He said that universities should implement bridge construction Plan, from peer participation and leadership activities to sustainable campus employment, meet with students where they are, and better prepare for their success.
