Grand opening of the new landmark RiverEdge Park pedestrian bridge in downtown Aurora, Illinois

Designed by TY Lin International, an innovative bridge provides safe crossing of the river for diversified users

Lin Tong Li International (TYLI), a world-renowned full-service infrastructure consulting company, announced that Lin Tong Li International will celebrate the opening of the new city on June 11, 2021, together with city officials and residents. Pedestrian bridge in riverside park Over the Fox River in Aurora, Illinois. The company signed a contract with the city of Aurora to design the iconic pedestrian bicycle bridge, a key part of the master plan to rebuild the city’s historic downtown area.

“Lin Tongpi International’s innovative design for the Riverside Park Pedestrian Bridge successfully balances different user needs, while providing an iconic, cost-effective landmark that represents the bright future of the city,” Lin Tongpi International Senior Bridge Engineer, PE , Dan Fitzwilliam said.

TYLI’s services for this project include bridge construction, aesthetic lighting design, structural engineering and electrical engineering. Initially, the company developed eight bridge concepts along four aligned sections. The final bridge design was developed through a series of public meetings and improvements with municipal staff. It is a seven-span concrete beam structure with elegant S-curve alignment.

The superstructure of the bridge has a central beam “spine” with two paths cantilevered on both sides. The isolated dual aisle allows faster commuting cyclists to be safely separated from slower pedestrians. Starting from the river bank, the access deck gradually rises to the top of the mid-span beam, where you can overlook the Fox River and the beautiful city of Aurora.

The riverside park pedestrian bridge connects the new riverside park on the east side of the river with the existing communities, redevelopment parks and trails on the west side. The bridge also allows non-motorized commuters to connect across the river to the recently improved multimodal Aurora Transportation Center.
