Twitter deleted a post by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari that threatened to punish regional separatists accused of attacking government buildings.
The move on Wednesday was due to Buhari’s tweet mentioning the civil war in the southeastern region of Biafra, which violated the social media company’s abuse policy and caused his account to be suspended for 12 hours.

IPOB is influential in the region, and its efforts to revive sentiment towards Biafra have triggered crackdowns by security agencies in recent years.
Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Lai Mohamed, dismissed Twitter’s actions, saying that Buhari has every right to express disappointment at the violence of banned organizations.
“Twitter may have its own rules, which are not universal rules,” he told reporters. “If a Mr. President anywhere in the world feels very bad and worried about a certain situation, he can express this opinion freely.”
