Palestinian human rights organizations accused the Israeli army of deliberately killing Palestinians who did not threaten their lives or safety.

Escalation of tensions

On Wednesday’s incident, Jewish nationalists marched in occupied East Jerusalem, marking the Israeli occupation of East Jerusalem in 1967, leading to an escalation of tensions. The demonstration aroused condemnation and anger from the Palestinians.

After burning balloons entered southern Israel from the besieged enclave, Israel also launched air strikes on the Gaza Strip.

In May, Israel’s 11-day bombing of Gaza resulted in the death of at least 256 Palestinians, including 66 children, less than a month later. There were no reports of any casualties after the night air strikes.

Last Thursday, Israeli special forces exchanged fire in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, killing an Islamic Jihad member and two Palestinian security officials.

On Friday and Saturday, two Palestinians were killed in different incidents, the first in the occupied West Bank and the second at a military checkpoint near Jerusalem.
