Jordanian security forces injured in night “riots” in Amman | Middle East News

Authorities said a tribal supporter of a member of Parliament who was barred from participating in parliament clashed with police in the Jordanian capital.

According to the authorities, Jordanian security forces are facing an “armed attack” in the capital Amman after a tribal supporter who was previously banned by the Royal Parliament clashed with the police on Saturday.

At the end of last month, the legislator Osama al-Ajarma was banned by the legislature for a year for insulting a corpse and inciting protests by members of his tribe in a speech.

Jordan’s official news agency Petra quoted the Ministry of the Interior as saying that some members of the security forces were injured after violence broke out in the Maha area near the road to Queen Alia’s International Airport on Saturday.

In another statement issued by the agency, the security department stated that “four members of the security forces who dealt with the riots in the Naour area were injured while trying to stop the rioters”.

‘Rule of law’

A media spokesperson for the Public Security Bureau said: “Saturday night, a security force handled a group of people riots, burning vehicles and aerial shooting in the Naur area. As a result of these actions, four public security personnel were injured and sent to the hospital.”

Earlier, the Ministry of the Interior said in a statement that it was investigating calls for illegal gatherings similar to previous gatherings that “danger social peace and the rule of law.”

The ministry also called on Jordanians to “stay away from illegal and unauthorized activities” and emphasized that such activities will not be allowed to occur.
