Can I opt out of advance child credit?
If parents want a larger tax refund next year, they can choose not to accept the advance payment. If your income is below the phase-out threshold in 2020 or 2019, but you expect to be above these levels in 2021, you may want to opt-out of advance payments to avoid some of the money you owe next year.
It’s too late to opt out of August credit, but you can use Update portal Opt out of future advance payments. The deadline to opt out of payment on September 15 is August 30.
