More than a year has passed since we brought Champ home. This is the first long-term placement in our foster care service. This is a year of learning, growing and experiencing a roller coaster.
In this episode of the podcast, Jesse and I sat down to tell some of the most unexpected lessons-the sadness of goodbye, the deep sadness we spent with the children, what we learned from Unity and how it affects us Of children, thinking about taking care of children with special needs, and how to use it to strengthen and change our beliefs.
We also discussed the book I am reading, the book completed by Jesse and the foster care support group, and how sometimes awkward things can turn into truly awesome relationships.
In this plot:
[00:33] This is Foster Care Service Awareness Month. We will share the foster care services of the past year.
[01:51] These days, my foster care support team is saving my life.
[05:42] Jesse finished reading the book he has been reading and still recommends it to me.
[08:49] I have been watching Can’t steal my joy By Bekah Bowman.
[11:35] Well, let’s talk about all the things that promote care and the unexpected lessons we learned in the process.
[13:20] Dealing with the grief that unity brings is a huge lesson.
[15:30] Our children are also affected and have the opportunity to learn how to grieve.
[17:12] How our grief affects our initial experience of Baby D.
[20:04] Foster care has affected our children. We entered this field with our eyes wide open, but it also gave them opportunities to grow.
[23:01] It is amazing to see our children so attached to the boy we raised.
[26:02] Fear is normal. Expect the unexpected.
[27:55] Foster family has also changed my view of hotkey themes in the world.
[30:14] The past year has deepened our beliefs as never before.
