God, can we stop making people feel guilty in morning pages, diaries, meditation, drinking 18 gallons of mint water, and yoga?
If you want to make these, great! But you don’t have to.
My rules for the perfect morning:
- No, you don’t need to meditate to succeed!
- No, you don’t need to keep a diary or do yoga.
- It’s okay to check Instagram first thing in the morning. (I do.)
- If it is not on your calendar, it does not exist
- You decide your wealthy life, including your morning routine.
Why do we take bad advice for the morning routine
There is a new cottage industry where people will tell you everything you “should” do every morning. But as it becomes more absurdly specific, it becomes more performative. Drink a glass of water? Do not! Make sure you inject turmeric and mint.
If you like mint, that’s great. But just adding mint has no effect. The real victory here is to consciously consider what you want to do—and how you want to do it.
This is much more difficult than making esoteric suggestions like drinking 6 ounces of yak tea. People like these suggestions because all of us want a magic bullet or “secret” that can magically change everything about us. Deep down, we know this is all nonsense.
I talked to Tim Ferriss about this a few years ago on his podcast-you can watch the interview here:
How to create the right morning routine for you
Real happiness and productivity come from deeper changes.
- If you like to wake up without an alarm clock, how can you fall asleep at a time when you can achieve this?
- If you want to make breakfast for your child every morning, how can you arrange it the night before?
- If you want to spend a leisurely morning and spend 2 hours watching TV, what do you need to do this?
This is much harder than taking some panacea. This means fundamentally refactoring your lifestyle, including the way you work (and even Where You work), how do you relax, when do you sleep, and even your opinion of yourself (“I am not an early riser” is an identity that you can rewrite).
The actual morning routine is decided in the previous week, month, and year
I like the idea of creating a meaningful morning for your personal wealthy life.I do not love Cargo worship The fanaticism for random strategies. By mastering the basics, determine the best morning routine in the previous day, week, and year.
What I mean is: when I wake up, spend a leisurely morning, and wander around and start working, I open my calendar. What I see has been decided weeks and months ago:
- I know what I’m doing Because every Monday looks the same, every Tuesday looks the same, etc.
- I have customized my work according to the way that suits meFor example, I am more creative in the morning, so I arrange writing time. I call in the afternoon most of the time.
- I keep my promise. If it is on the calendar, it is done. If it is not on the calendar, it is not. Do you know why we don’t “try” to brush our teeth every morning? We just do it. The schedule is the same: once it is arranged, I will deliver it. This has become a habit-you can develop the same habit!
It is much better to consciously decide what your morning looks like. If you want to turn over and check Instagram (just like me), that’s great. The first thing I read was that some 17-year-olds told me that my investment was wrong. Good morning, @crypt0_4_lyfe7291. Thank you for your contribution to the investment literature.
Be realistic about your time and energy
Look at your calendar for tomorrow. Have you ever wondered how your energy fluctuates throughout the day? Does your calendar include the 3 most important things to complete? Is this realistic-does it include time to go to the toilet, eat, and go out?
These are more important than deciding how many ounces of water to drink. They are also harder, which is why we avoid using them.I believe in solving the problem Big win In life, don’t chase small decisions that are ultimately meaningless.
3 questions to ask yourself when designing your morning routine
- What would your perfect morning look like? Relax your mind. They might include walking the dog in the park, making the perfect cup of coffee or watching TV for an hour. You decide!
- What are all the reasons this will never work? Write them on paper. I know I know. You are not an early riser. Your boss will not let you start work at 9:30 in the morning. Your kitchen is too messy. You do not have the right equipment to make espresso coffee. Write down all the reasons.
- What are all your reasons Can Make this work?Turn it around now: if you absolutely must, what Can Are you trying to make your perfect morning happen? Maybe you can reach an agreement with your boss on your start time. You can buy an espresso machine. You can even be close to the park. Think big and don’t set limits on yourself.
When you solve these problems, you may realize that the perfect morning is much closer than you think.
